Created by Mestrando Marcus Cabeca in 2023, "Solta o Jogo" is a competition dedicated to preserving the traditional roots of Capoeira while employing an innovative approach. Its mission is to positively promote the art form to the Capoeira community and the wider public.
Our competition draws teams from across the UK and Europe (including France, Spain, Germany, and Poland), representing 27 different nationalities. With over 350 in-person spectators and 200,000+ live stream viewers annually, the event continues to grow in attendance, sponsorship, and VIP support.
Celebrate community through the vibrant flavors of Brazil and Africa. Our Food & Fair is more than just a meal, it’s a cultural journey that brings people together around the table.
From Brazil, experience the warmth and richness of traditional favorites: Pão de Queijo, the beloved cheesy bread; golden, savory Coxinha; the hearty national dish Feijoada, a flavorful black bean stew; crispy, spiced Acarajé; and refreshing bowls of Açaí that capture the taste of the tropics. To honor the deep roots that connect Brazil to Africa, we also bring you iconic African dishes that celebrate heritage and tradition. Savor the bold, comforting flavors of Jollof Rice, a dish known across West Africa for its vibrant spices, and enjoy the sweet, fluffy perfection of Puff-Puff, a true crowd favorite.
Witness Capoeira as a living art form. This is not a fight, but a breathtaking "body dialogue" between world-class artists, each showcasing their unique style and creativity. Solta - o - Jogo is the first international collective capoeira competition of its kind with teams from France, Spain and Germany joining us. Experience the rhythm and fluid motion of a martial art that is both powerful and poetic. We are also incredibly honoured and excited to be the host of multiple VIP’s at the event with confirmed presence of incredible minds from Brazil, England and more.
We are proud to host SOJ3 at the iconic Kingston Town Hall for the third consecutive year. This award-winning, state-of-the-art venue has not only earned multiple accolades for its design and facilities, but has also been featured on Netflix.
Being trusted with this exceptional space for the third time in a row is a testament to the success of our past events and the strong partnership we have built. Kingston Town Hall provides the perfect backdrop for celebrating culture, movement, and community at the world’s only international collective Capoeira competition.
Immerse yourself in the magic of Brazil as our performances take you on a journey through culture, history, and resistance. Each show is a vibrant expression of Afro-Brazilian tradition, blending movement, rhythm, and storytelling to create an unforgettable experience. Audiences will witness the powerful dance of resistance known as Maculelê, a performance rooted in resilience and community spirit. The soulful rhythms of Samba de Roda will fill the space, combining music, movement, and call-and-response singing to celebrate joy, unity, and tradition.
At the heart of the event is the Batizado, the Capoeira initiation ceremony where students are formally welcomed into the Capoeira family. This moment represents growth, belonging, and the continuation of a cultural legacy that has traveled across generations. To make the celebration even more accessible, the event will be broadcast live in both English and Portuguese, allowing audiences around the world to take part in the experience.
